I am passionate about life, about my children, playing with them, watching them grow. I believe in family. I am passionate about my writing and my publishing company. I love intellectual discourse, but I also love sports (though at the moment I trying to rehab my right leg, and it is slow going as you get older, but this will not stop me). I am passionate about exploring the world, about learning, about travel, about history. Sicilians called it gusto. I am Irish and Lithuanian, so for me it means a crazy passion for living.

I try to go swimming 5 times a week; I go to the coffee shop almost every day. The life of a writer is partly defined by time, which means I am always reading, but this is not leisure in the sense that most people think of leisure, though from afar it looks the same. I do enjoy going to movies and when my leg is rehabbed (damn leg, makes one long for robotic enhancements like in the Six Million Dollar man) I will go for long walks (hikes in the mountains to walking the streets of a city).

So a little about my books and my ambition (because everyone needs to be able to articulate what drives them). In 1997 my short story collection One Last Dance with Lawrence Welk & Other Stories was a Minnesota Book Award Finalist. In 2010 my novel The Conjure Man made the informal long list for The National Book Award. I run a small press called River Boat Books, a small press which is poised on becoming much bigger. I am going to publish 8-12 titles this year.
